Why and how does the Big Help use cookies?

Introduction

We are the Big Help Project and Big Help Trading. You can find out more about us and all that we do at www.big-help.info

 

This Privacy Notice relates to our use of any personal ‘data’ (described here as ‘personal information’), that we collect from you; this includes our use of any personal information you provide to us in person, by phone, fax, SMS, email or any other correspondence or via our website.

The Big Help Project is committed to safeguarding your personal information. We are legally obliged to comply with all relevant laws for the protection of personal information. Relevant Acts and Regulations include the Data Protection Act 1998 and the Data Protection Act 2018 that introduced the European Union General Data Protection Regulation 2016 (GDPR) into UK domestic law.

  1. How we collect personal information about you?

 

Most of the personal information we process is provided to us directly by you for one of the following reasons:

  1. a) You have made an enquiry to us regarding one of our services or we provide one of our services
  2. b) You have made an information request to us, in person, by telephone or in writing or when you complete a ‘contact us’ form on our website.
  3. c) You subscribe to our e-newsletter.
  4. d) You have applied for a job or to be a volunteer with us.
  5. e) You are representing your organisation.
  6. f) You wish to attend, or have attended, an event that we have organised.

  1. a) Your name and contact details; contact details you provide may include postal address, telephone/mobile number, email address, social media identity and emergency contact details.
  2. b) Your date of birth and age.
  3. c) Information about your computer/ mobile device and your visits to and use of our website, including, for example, your IP address and geographical location;
  4. d) Personal descriptions and/or photographs where you provide consent for their use:

  1. e) Your financial information i.e. benefits and salary details, bank statements, reference numbers for creditors (Jubilee Debt Advice).
  2. f) Details of your education, employment history and employment status when providing help for you to access education, employment or training (the ‘Next Steps Team’).

Sensitive personal information - ‘special categories’ of data

 

The Data Protection laws recognise certain categories of personal information as sensitive and requiring more protection. We will only process special categories of data if there is a valid reason for doing so and where the GDPR allows us. We have a legal duty to comply with the Equality Act (2010); this may mean that we need to make service adjustments for anyone with a disability who contacts us in any capacity, to eliminate any barriers to accessing our services. Our legal basis for processing this information is article 6(1)(c) of the GDPR. Our processing of special category data, such as health information you give us, will be based on article 9(2)(a), which means we always need your explicit consent.

* Funding bodies such as the Trussell Trust, the European Union Working Futures Programme, the VOLA Consortium, the Big Lottery and other funders as may be listed from time to time on our website.

* Third party partners that we work with to provide you with a service; the Trussell Trust, Community Money Advice, Baby Basics and One Vision Housing.

* Training providers where this is appropriate.

* Suppliers and sub-contractors for the performance of a contract to provide a service.

* Professional service providers such as accountants and lawyers;

* Regulatory authorities, such as the Charities Commission, the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) and tax authorities.

The Big Help is committed to keeping your personal information safe and secure. Our Data Protection Policy describes the organisational and technical measures that are in place to protect your information. We have implemented generally accepted standards of information technology and operational security to protect any personal data we hold from loss, misuse, or unauthorised access, alteration or destruction. Your personal information is only accessible by appropriately trained staff and is stored securely to prevent unauthorised access. We will notify you promptly in the event of any breach of your personal information that may potentially expose you to serious risk.

We hold your personal information on our systems only for as long as is necessary for the relevant activity. In general, we will remove your personal information from our records six years after the date it was collected.
